Instructor Workflow
Creating Case Assignments
Creating case assignments:
Case assignments are the flagship assignment type on SimCare AI. They allow teachers to assign specific simulated counseling sessions with AI patients and give structured feedback on their students' communication and clinical reasoning skills.
As an instructor, you can assign any case from the SimCare library and specify which skills you want evaluated.
Selecting a Case Template
To create a new case assignment:
Go to your Class
Open the Assignments tab
Click “Create Assignment” and select Case
You’ll be prompted to select a case template from the SimCare AI case library. Templates cover a range of client profiles, clinical presentations, and difficulty levels.
Once you've selected a case, you can configure the assignment details.
Assignment Details
After selecting a case, you’ll enter the core assignment settings:
Field | Description |
Assignment Name | The title students will see (e.g., “Initial Assessment: Mr. Wei C.”) |
Description | Optional guidance or expectations for the session |
Due Date | The deadline for completion |
Due Time | Time of day the assignment closes |
Number of Attempts | Limit how many times a student can complete the session (e.g., “1 attempt only” or “Unlimited”) |
These settings ensure that students complete the assignment within your desired timeline and structure.
Additional Settings (Optional):
At the bottom of Assignment Details there is an option to click Additional Settings. This leads to a scroll-down menu titled: Theory. Educators can select a specific theory to be assessed (Narrative, Motivational, CBT etc). This will inform our AI Generated feedback on how to analyze the students performance. This step is entirely optional and can be skipped.
Selecting Skills for Assessment
Once the assignment details are saved, you’ll see two checklists, one after the other.
These checklists represent:
Assesment Types (e.g., Problem Statement, Treatment Planning, Differential Diagnosis, etc.)
Rubric Elements (e.g., Annotated Transcript, Theory Analysis, Basic Skills, etc.)
What to do?
Assesment Types: Check the boxes next to what you want the student to perform following their interaction with the AI Client.
Rubric Elements: Check the boxes next to the skills you want assessed, giving the instructor the ability to enable or limit AI Feedback to their specifications.
For both Assesment Types and Rubric Elements, you can select as many or as few skills as you like, depending on your learning goals for the assignment.
Publishing the Case
After skill selection:
You can choose to Save as Draft or Publish
Students will see the case title, description, due date, and attempt limit
Once they complete the interaction, SimCare will generate an AI-powered summary, skill scores, and feedback
You’ll be able to review each student's submission, override AI evaluations if needed, and release feedback manually or automatically.
